Field Technician Internship

Pay: $21/hour

Position Overview

We are seeking motivated and reliable Field Technicians to assist with a short-term visitor use study at Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Interns will play a key role in collecting important visitor use data that supports park management and planning efforts.

This is a paid, immersive field experience ideal for students or early-career professionals interested in natural resources, recreation management, or social science research.

Responsibilities

  • Collect visitor use data through in-person observations and brief interactions

  • Engage professionally and courteously with park visitors

  • Accurately record data following established protocols

  • Work independently and as part of a small field team

  • Spend extended periods outdoors in varying weather conditions

Compensation & Covered Expenses

  • $21 per hour

  • Daily stipend for food and incidentals

Required Qualifications

  • Comfortable working outdoors for long periods of time

  • Able to stand for much of the day in cold and hot weather conditions

  • Comfortable initiating conversations and interacting with park visitors

  • Dependable, punctual, and detail-oriented

  • Able to follow data collection protocols carefully

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in recreation management, environmental studies, or social science research

  • Previous fieldwork, customer service, or public-facing experience
